Here's the great main character of the Shadow Hearts series. He's called "Uru" for short in the Japanese version, but since that just sounds STUPID in English, they changed his name to "Yuri", which I think sounds pretty neat and does resemble a Russian name. The only character difference between Yuri in SH1 and SH2 that I've noticed are his eyes. In SH1, he has very light blue eyes, so why does he have red eyes in SH2? I don't really care about an answer to this question because red eyes are cool! Here's a couple pictures of his eyes from SH1 and then...the rollover is just something I made to fix up the colors a little bit. Also the FMVs in SH2 seem a little more "animated" than they did in SH1. I think they were aiming for a more realistic look in SH1. I mean, look at those eyes! Don't they look real!? But skin tone colors are all so WHITE looking... they need some more color!

Yuri's father was a Japanese militant officer and his mother was from Russia. Both of his parents died when he was ten years old, which was also when his powers as a Harmonixer awoke; a very rare ability to absorb souls of monsters in order to fuse with them and assume their form.

When the Seraphic Radiance was summoned, he attempted to fuse with the beast to save his friends but failed. He was swallowed by the darkness and was lost for half a year until Alice and Zhuzhen discovered him in dark tower of Keith's Blue Castle. Eventually Yuri came back to his senses but only after Alice came to him in his dreams--to the Graveyard where he defeats the Fusion monsters. Alice makes a deal with the God of Death, Atman, and in exchange for Yuri's life, she must forfit her own sometime down the road...
There are two endings to SH1, a good and bad ending. The good ending takes place after you accomplish various side quests in order to both gain the use of the Seraphic Radiance Fusion and save Alice from Atman. In this case, both Yuri and Alice are shown on a train to Alice's home town. The bad ending--which is where SH2 takes place after--takes place after you FAIL to save Alice from the four Masks and Atman. While on the train to her home town, she falls into a deep and eternal sleep, leaving Yuri behind with his guilt and regret. *sob*
* Hyuga is a Japanese name which is pronounced "hue-ga," not "high-yu-ga" as it's said in the US trailer. Morons... |
